Cheesecake of the Month is Dollipop
What inspires you? Good music!
My routines always begin with a piece of music that moves me, or makes me want to move.... it sets the mood, then my creativity sparks.
What makes you unique as a performer?
My musicality. I can sing and play many instruments, sometimes the instruments are part of my act. I've got rhythm, who could ask for anything more?
Which of your acts is your current favourite?
I've always loved my Baked a Cake number, everyone loves cake, and I'm a fantastic hostess, come and get your slice!
How did you become involved with the Cheesecake Burlesque Revue?
I ran into Champagne Sparkles after a Big John Bates show at Sugar nightclub, where I was wowed by the amazing Little Miss Risk of the Voodoo Dolls. She asked if I would like to be a part of her new troupe's very first Halloween show, and I happily hopped on board! I have been sparkling and shimmying ever since...
What's the oddest audience you have performed for?
Stunned seniors at a care home. We made a few pacemakers stutter that day, I don' t think they quite knew what hit them.
What's the most interesting thing you have learned about yourself by doing burlesque?
ALL women are beautiful! I had been draping my voluptuous body under big loose layers for years, thinking my curves were something I had to hide. Burlesque has taught me that ALL bodies are beautiful, all it takes is to acknowledge our favorite fun parts, dress them up, shake 'em like there's no tomorrow, and Voila - a burlesque babe is born! Beautiful, feminine, powerful, sexy, all those things I thought a big girl could never be, boy was I wrong!
If you weren't a burlesque performer, what else do you see yourself doing?
Making music, but I already do that now! I do all the things that make me happy, I fill my days with fun, and work hard to make it all happen!
What's your favourite style of underwear?
Well, since I always seem to be losing my knickers, I prefer the kind that stay up.
How do you spend your day off?
Catching up on all the things I don' t have time for during the week. If I'm already caught up, I like to lounge in the sunshine, preferably at the beach.
As a performer, what one item can you not live without?
Bobby pins! They are a must to tame this curly mess of a mane!
What's your least favourite part of doing burlesque?
Sore tootsies, and getting the eyelash glue off after a show.
Where would you like to perform that you've not yet had the chance?
New Orleans or New York!
Do you have a favourite pair of shoes?
Yes, I just bought them, I got such a great deal I let out a squeal! They're just like Dorothy's ruby slippers, I can click my heels and go anywhere I want!
What would people be surprised to know about you?
I am almost an empty-nester with only one child left at home, my babies are 16 and 22!
